VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has affirmed that the Party, State and people are always the fulcrum, believe in Vietnamese businesses and entrepreneurs’ development, and join hands to fulfil the task of national construction and protection.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Deputy Prime Ministers Le Minh Khai and Tran Luu Quang co-chaired a meeting with outstanding state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Hanoi on March 3.

The meeting is viewed as an opportunity for leaders of the Government, ministries and sectors to examine ways to help businesses overcome difficulties and promote production and business activities.

In recent times, innovating and improving the operational efficiency of SOEs has received great attention from the Vietnamese Party and State and has been identified as one of the key tasks of all levels and sectors in boosting socio-economic development.

With 676 enterprises, holding assets worth more than VND3.8 quadrillion (as of early 2023), state-owned enterprises are determined to have a key position and are a key material force of the State economy, making an important contribution to stabilizing the macro-economy and promoting socio-economic development.

With the goal of making SOEs truly become "an important material force of the state economy" leading other economic sectors, it is imperative to assess the situation and the achievements and contributions of SOEs, clarify shortcomings, limitations, difficulties and obstacles, thereby providing innovative directions and solutions aimed at improving the efficiency of resource use at SOEs.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh addresses the event

In his opening speech, PM Pham Minh Chinh underlined the need to hold in-depth discussions on activities of state-owned enterprises, particularly assigned tasks, thus contributing to the country's successful implementation of tasks and goals for 2024 and those adopted by the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

According to the Prime Minister, 2023 is a difficult year for the world, including Vietnam, and for businesses in general and SOEs in particular due to the prolonged COVID-19 consequences, conflicts, fierce strategic competition, monetary policy changes in many countries, high inflation, reduced demand, and broken supply chains.

In that context, under the Party's leadership alongside the participation of the entire political system, efforts by people and businesses, and the support and cooperation of international friends, the nation has achieved quite comprehensive results across multiple fields.

As a result, the macro-economy was basically stable in 2023, with controlled inflation, promoted growth and guaranteed major balances. Public debt, Government debt, and foreign debt have been brought under control.

The scale of the economy increased to roughly US$430 billion, with an average GDP per capita of about US$4,300. Defence and security were maintained and the country's international profile was enhanced.

On behalf of the Government, the PM acknowledged, praised and thanked state-owned enterprises for their efforts and results as a contribution to the country's overall achievements.

State-owned enterprises in recent times have promoted their role in difficulties and challenges, become more experienced in preserving and effectively using capital resources, thus ensuring the lives of workers and social security.

Chinh also called on SOEs to engage more intensively in the implementation of strategic breakthroughs regarding institutional perfection, personnel training and infrastructure development.

It is essential to assess the situation related to the development of SOEs, the current advantages and difficulties in order to enhance the role of state-owned enterprises to more effectively exploit their assets and resources as a means of promoting new growth drivers such as digital transformation, green transformation, circular economy, sharing economy, and knowledge-based economy, the Government chief emphasized.
