The forum themed “Toward Fast and Sustainable Growth of a People-Centered ASEAN Community” will bring together senior leaders of ASEAN countries and partners, representatives of international organizations, as well as leading regional and world scholars, said Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet.
The initiative put forward by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, last September, aims to create a forum for ASEAN member countries, partners and other stakeholders to contribute to promoting and shaping the future development path for ASEAN.
“We do expect that the forum will create a framework for all regional and non-regional stakeholders to provide ideas and initiatives for the process of building and realizing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, and to contribute to efforts to shape the world’s future development through the United Nations Future Summit, scheduled to be held this September,” said Viet.
According to the diplomat, senior leaders of Vietnam, incumbent ASEAN Chair, Secretary General of ASEAN, and Secretary General of the United Nations are expected to deliver speeches at the opening ceremony of the forum.
The forum will comprise two sessions, with plenary session 1 focusing on ASEAN’s Rapid Development for a Sustainable Future, and plenary session 2 on Ensuring Comprehensive Security for a People-Centered ASEAN Community.
A dialogue between the Secretary General of ASEAN and young people will take place within the framework of the forum. The dialogue gives Vietnamese and ASEAN youths an opportunity to increase their understanding of ASEAN, and share expectations and recommendations for the future direction of ASEAN.
