Shaping the Festival City of Asia
The joy of Da Lat city in particular and Lam Dong province in general is that on February 28, 2024, Da Lat city was officially recognized as the Festival City of Asia by the International Festival and Event Association - Asia (IFEA ASIA). This is the "sweet fruit" crystallized from 9 Da Lat Flower Festivals that have taken place.
After reviewing and evaluating the documents sent by countries, the Asian Festival City Conference officially awarded 12 categories of Asian Festival awards, including the fields of music, culture, heritage, entertainment, cuisine, etc., in which Da Lat was recognized in the category of "Most beautiful Flower and Garden Festival", and is also one of the 5 impressive festival cities of Asia.
Promoting the advantages of soil, climate, production - business traditions and the sentiment of flower growers and flower lovers, Da Lat affirms itself as the largest flower production center in the country, from output, quality to variety. In 2023, the city's flower growing area will reach over 6,000 hectares, with an output of 2,470,490 million branches. The average value of harvested cut flowers per unit area will reach 1 billion VND/ha/year. Some high-end flower cultivation models have a harvest value of 2.5-3 billion VND/ha/year such as lilies, cymbidiums, etc. Da Lat's flower industry accounts for the largest proportion of exports in the local economy. In 2022, Lam Dong province's flower exports will reach 74 million USD (accounting for 75% of the country's export value), with Da Lat alone accounting for over 80 flower export items in the province. Exactly 20 years ago (2004), in order to honor and promote the flower industry to domestic and international friends and tourists, Lam Dong province decided to organize a flower cultural event to celebrate the 110th anniversary of Da Lat's establishment and development, which is the Flower Festival. Since 2005, Lam Dong - Da Lat has organized the first Da Lat Flower Festival. The Da Lat Flower Festival has become a national and international cultural and tourism festival with its own brand. The number of visitors to the Da Lat Flower Festival reaches 300,000-400,000 each event period.
Da Lat is the only city in Vietnam approved by the Prime Minister as a "Flower Festival City" according to Decision No. 795/QD-TTg dated June 10, 2009. The Da Lat Flower Festival has established a philosophy of conservation and promotion, community spirit and creativity. The 10th Da Lat Flower Festival - 2024 has been issued a Plan by the Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, according to which the sub-committees are actively and synchronously implementing the event contents. In particular, the opening program will take place on December 6, 2024 (Friday), at Lam Vien Square, Da Lat city. Also at this Square, on December 31, 2024 (Tuesday), the 2025 New Year's Eve Art Program will take place, combined with the Closing Ceremony of the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival - 2024. The closing program will have special art performances and low-altitude fireworks. Other activities within the framework of the Festival will also take place throughout Lam Dong province with many rich and diverse forms. First of all, the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival - 2024 with the theme "Da Lat Flowers - Symphony of Colors" will continue to elevate the level of cultural and tourism events at the provincial level towards national and international scale.
